Epic: Armageddon IPA

The Indian Pale Ale to end all Indian Pale Ales; so much hop it needs a hollywood ending and Bruce Willis didn’t need to draw the short straw to save this beauty.

I’m usually more of a “girly beer” type of guy but even though my first sip prompted me to state “Holy fuck that’s bitter” – the slightly larger bottle gave cause for further sips and thus the brew has now grown on me (after about my 3rd or so swig).

I don’t want to close my eyes, I don’t want to fall asleep cause some dick would probably steal this one. Finding one in your local supermarket is a bit like pulling a golden ticket from a Willy Wonka chocolate bar (not really I’m just saying that so you all run to your supermarkets now like it’s the end of the world).

So many hops in one drop means an explosion on your taste buds that Kim Jung Ill would kill to have in an atomic bomb. The scent blends fresh strawberry with some sort of coriander type finish. The taste in depth combines everything you could think of; the blurb isn’t kidding when it states “an apocalyptic assault on your preconceptions and taste buds” – every time I take a mouthful I can’t pin down any particular flavour or comparison.

It’s interesting that this is a result of a NZ brewer matching NZ water with various hops at a brewery based in the UK – because my boyfriend upon his first taste said and I quote:

“That’s a real English Ale but its like it cant decide whether its Pommy or Kiwi”

To be fair it’s an American style Pale Ale but he was pretty close in picking its brew origin.

The malt is strong with this one; the residue of each drink is slightly chocolate in palate but does not overwhelm the range of hops competing for prime position on your tongue.
